Ithra Short Play Contest 2022

Calling All Performance Makers and Theater Artists!

August 2022

Ithra is currently accepting applications for Ithra Short Play Contest, scheduled to run August 18 - 20, 2022.

Eight plays will be performed over the Three-day festival at Ithra’s Energy Theater with the aim of empowering local talent and enriching theatrical content.

We welcome artists to share their talents and creativity with a live audience at this artistic event.

What we are looking for:

The application process:

• To apply as a Playwright, completed original scripts should be sent by email to theater@ithra.com with the written consent form attached no later than June 7, 2022. (This is now closed).
• To apply as a Theater Director, the registration must be completed via the Director form and submitted no later than June 7, 2022. (This is now closed).
• To apply as an Assistant Director, the registration must be completed via the Assistant Director form and submitted no later than June 7, 2022. (This is now closed).
• To apply as an Actor, the registration must be completed via the Actor form and submitted no later than June 7, 2022. (This is now closed).
• To apply as a Scenic Design Assistant, the registration must be completed via the Scenic Design Assistant form and submitted no later than June 7, 2022. (This is now closed).

Selection process:

• The Contest coordinators will evaluate and select eight Directors and eight Assistant Directors.
• Directors will be asked to choose a play from the shortlisted scripts.
• The Contest coordinators will share the chosen scripts with the Directors, and link the Directors to the Playwrights if needed.
• Each Director will have an Assistant Director.
• Directors will have access to the list of registered Actors.
• Scenic Design Assistants will be chosen to assist the Scenic Designer.

Please note that to be eligible to participate as a Director, Playwright, Assistant Director or Production Assistant, you must be at least 18 years of age. It is also recommended to be a member of the Ithra Theater Society.

You can become a member by filling out and submitting the Ithra Theater Society Form. (This is now closed).

Conditions for submission:

• That the script is original and the intellectual property rights belong to the Playwright himself. In the event that the script is plagiarized, the coordinators will exclude it.
• That the Playwright will sign a waiver permitting their script to be staged at Ithra’s Energy Theater in accordance with the artistic vision of the Director.
• That the Director be responsible for selecting the script, setting their artistic vision for the play, casting Actors, leading rehearsals and overseeing the technical rehearsals.
• That the Director does not have the authority to change the script without referring back to the Playwright for their approval.
